CHRISTIAN MAY DROPS 20 TO LEAD MEN’S BASKETBALL TO A BIG WIN AT CHARLESTON ON THURSDAY

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Towson men's basketball picked up a huge 82-78 win against Charleston on Thursday night. Christian May led the charge with a team-best 20 points, 14 coming in the second half in the win.

Towson (10-8, 3-2 CAA) had three reach double figures led by May as the Tigers ended a nine-game win streak for the Cougars (13-5, 4-1 CAA). Nendah Tarke and Dylan Williamson also reached double digits in the win.

    Postgame Quote:
"It's a good team win. It's the best team effort of the season and hopefully something we can build upon. Nendah Tarke and Christian May were tremendous offensively today and that was big for us," Head coach Pat Skerry said after the win.

    Key Stats:

    • May had his third 20-point performance of the season going 6-11 from the field and going 5-7 from three. Tarke had 18 points with a team-high seven rebounds and five assists.
    • Williamson scored 13 points on 5-6 shooting. In all, seven Tigers had six or more points and Towson assisted on 15 of 30 made field goals.
    • Towson shot 52 percent from the floor and led for just under 29 minutes in the win.

    How It Happened:

    • Towson got out to a fast start, ripping off a 12-2 run over a 2:02 span to push out to a 16-7 lead thanks to four straight possessions with a three. Christian May connected on two with Nendah Tarke and Messiah Jones also hitting from deep.
    • The Tigers would go on a scoring drought allowing the Cougars to cut the deficit to five, but Tarke would end the drought with a tough driving layup.
    • Charleston would continue to cut into the Tiger lead and would retake the lead late in the first half.
    • However, a pair of Dylan Williamson triples made it 38-38 at halftime. Williamson would lead all scorers with 12 points with Tarke adding 11 and five assists. Towson shot 50 percent from the floor and 60 percent from three.
    • Both teams went back and forth to start the second half. Charleston would put together a 6-0 run to take a two-point lead at the under 12 timeout after Towson scored four straight to push ahead.
    • The Cougars would fight back to tie it once again, but once again Towson had the answer in the form of five points from Christian May that included a big three.
    • Christian May would continue to heat up late beating the buzzer on a corner jumper and nailing a big three to put the Tigers up double digits.
    • The Tigers would hold off a Charleston rally late to pick up a big 82-78 win on Thursday night.

    Inside The Numbers:

    • This was Christian May's third 20-point performance of the season. He went for 27 against Massachusetts and 24 against UMBC earlier this year.
    • The 15 assists ties a season-best when the Tigers also had 15 against Bryant.
    • Head coach Pat Skerry moves into second place on the all-time wins list with 203 passing Terry Truax and trails Vince Angotti who is in first with 231.
