$16-million Renovation Elevates Towson’s Premier Senior Community
For over three decades, Blakehurst has been the premier senior living community in Towson, Maryland. Its rich history, spectacular 40-acre campus, and unparalleled services and amenities provide residents with best-in-class living experiences.
“Our goal has always been to enrich the lives of our residents and help them live life to the fullest,” says Lonny Blessing, Blakehurst’s Executive Director. “This is why we are incredibly excited about our $16-million renovation that will enhance every aspect of life in our community, from luxurious amenities to modern design touches, and more.”
Residents are thrilled with the upgrades.
While community spirit, quality of life, and an adventurous lifestyle are all reasons why residents choose to be part of the Blakehurst community, this renovation adds a new layer of elegance – a wow factor – that will be enjoyed for years to come.
“I have to commend our residents for their input and dedication to each aspect of the renovation,” added Blessing. “From carpet, to furniture, to color selections, our residents’ input has been at the heart of this renovation and will make the outcome very special.”
First-class services and amenities
The newly renovated aquatic center opened in April and is now a hub for health and wellness, with upgrades to the indoor pool and locker rooms, as well as the addition of state-of-the-art fitness equipment due later this year. Wellness Director Kayla Hill said “Residents are ready to dive in (so to speak)! Our residents like to be active and our HealthyLife® wellness program focuses on four key areas for optimum health: fitness, nutrition, active life, and well-being.”
It’s not just feeding your mind and spirit; it’s also about spending time with friends and family over a good meal.
Residents and guests will now have several distinct dining options, all designed with a fresh, classic décor: a new, relaxed pub and eatery, an expanded outdoor area for the Terrace Bistro for casual dining three meals a day, as well as the more traditional, high-end restaurant experience in the Chesapeake dining room. And for those who might want a night at home, there are options for takeout from the kitchen or grab-and-go from the newly reimagined corner store.
The elevated dining experiences at Blakehurst will be led by new Food and Beverage Director Steve Newcombe and long-time Executive Chef Sung Pak.
Newcombe brings 30 years of experience in culinary leadership and is excited to “share his love of food with the Blakehurst community.”
Variety of living options and continuum of care
The auditorium, lobby, and meeting rooms will also undergo makeovers! Upgraded décor, furniture, and technology will allow residents to enjoy the many activities, parties, concerts, and enrichment events that take place at Blakehurst every week.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the renovation for new residents is the upgraded, redesigned one-bedroom apartment homes. Residents can personalize their new homes by selecting paint colors, flooring, finishes, and appliances to match the fresh new look of the community’s amenities.
As the transformation continues, one thing is clear: Blakehurst isn’t just a place to retire—it’s a place to thrive, to connect, and to embrace all that life has to offer. And thanks to LifeCare®, Blakehurst offers the most comprehensive plan for healthcare services should the need arise.
