BALTIMORE MAN SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR ARMED ROBBERIES IN HOWARD, ANNE ARUNDEL, AND BALTIMORE COUNTIES
A Baltimore man has been handed a fourteen-year sentence for a series of armed robberies across Maryland, striking cellphone stores in Howard County, Anne Arundel County, and Baltimore County. The sentencing, delivered by U.S. District Judge Brendan A. Hurson, will see Gary Leon Holloway, 46, followed by an additional four years of supervised release after his prison term. The sentence was confirmed by Erek L. Barron, United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, alongside other high-ranking law enforcement officials.
Based on the guilty plea made by Holloway, his criminal activities alongside co-conspirators spanned across January 2020. Brandishing a firearm, Holloway was involved in multiple thefts where electronics and other personal items such as wallets from store employees were pilfered. By the culmination of the robbery spree, law enforcement apprehended Holloway and his accomplices in Baltimore County. The U.S. Attorney's Office detailed the crimes, including a scenario where shop employees were forced to empty a safe.
The prosecution and subsequent conviction of Holloway stem from Project Safe Neighborhoods ("PSN"), a collaborative initiative aimed to reduce violent crime and enforce gun regulations more stringently. Since its reinvigoration on May 26, 2021, the Department of Justice has been working on adjusting the program, emphasizing strategic enforcement and community-based preventative measures.
The investigations leading to Holloway's capture and conviction were the culmination of efforts by the ATF, the Howard County Police Department, the Anne Arundel Police Department, the Baltimore County Police Department, and the Baltimore Police Department. In his comments, U.S. Attorney Barron praised the cooperative work between the varying departments and Assistant U.S. Attorneys John W. Sippel, Jr., and Adey Adenrele for their roles in bringing the case to a close. The Maryland U.S. Attorney's Office encourages individuals to access resources and learn more about community outreach initiatives through their official website.
