PSEG wants court order to access Md. farmland

By Jonathan Cribbs, americanfarmer.com

A New Jersey-based transmission developer is seeking a federal court order to access more than 100 private properties, including farms and other agricultural operations, in northern Maryland for environmental fieldwork tied to a controversial high-voltage power line project.

PSEG filed a motion this week for a preliminary injunction that would allow it temporary access to farmland, woodlots and rural properties along the planned 67-mile Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project.

The company says the access is needed to conduct “non-invasive” surveys — such as wetlands and forest stand delineations — requested by state environmental regulators evaluating the project.
According to court documents, PSEG has been unable to secure voluntary entry agreements from the landowners, prompting the request for judicial intervention.

The proposed overhead transmission line, ordered by regional grid operator PJM Interconnection, would span Baltimore, Carroll and Frederick counties.
