Tick Bites Surge to 10-Year High — Experts Warn of Early, Potentially Severe Season
By George Washington University
Newswise — Emergency room visits for tick bites have more than doubled compared to typical levels for this time of year, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
During the most recent week, 71 out of every 100,000 ER visits were for tick bites, compared to a seasonal average closer to 30. The Northeast is currently seeing the highest rates, but experts say this could quickly spread across regions as temperatures continue to rise.
