COCKEYSVILLE, MD—Authorities have charged a 34-year-old man with kidnapping and assault after he allegedly abducted a student who was walking to a Baltimore County middle school on Thursday morning. The student was 12.
Oscar Bladimir Argueta Argueta faces charges of kidnapping and second-degree assault, the Baltimore County Police Department announced Friday. He is currently being held without bond following his arrest.
The investigation began at approximately 7:50 a.m. Thursday when officers responded to Cockeysville Middle School. A student at the school reported to officials that she had been abducted while walking to class in the area of Vintage Court and Cranbrook Road.
According to police, the student said she was approached by a man who identified himself as a family friend. The man reportedly persuaded her to get into his vehicle and drove her to several different locations before eventually dropping her off at the school.
Detectives located Argueta shortly after the incident was reported and took him into custody. He remained unidentified by police until his appearance before a court commissioner.
The victim was not reported to have any physical injuries. Police have not released further details regarding the relationship between the suspect and the victim’s family or a possible motive for the abduction.
The suspect has a pending immigration detainer.
