Volunteer Spotlight: Joyce Mann from Cockeysville Middle School

Since 2020, Joyce has been a dedicated part of the Student Support Network community. Her journey with SSN began during the height of the pandemic, when drive-through distributions became a lifeline for many families. Through Sherwood Episcopal Church in Cockeysville, she became involved as part of an initiative to support students and families at Cockeysville Middle School by helping launch Student Support Network services there.

Looking back, the drive-through pantry days stand out as especially meaningful. “They were hectic, but rewarding,” she shared. “It was a time of great uncertainty, and it felt good to be out there doing something positive in the community.” Today, one of her favorite parts of volunteering is the camaraderie among fellow volunteers. “We work well together, and I have made many new friends.”
For anyone considering getting involved, Joyce's advice is simple: “Give volunteering at Student Support a try. There are many different ways to help. Find something that suits your schedule and interests.”
Outside of SSN, Joyce stays busy caring for her two rescue dogs and volunteering with UCAN in Cockeysville, an organization that works to prevent evictions, utility shut offs and supports unhoused individuals in the area. She also enjoys traveling to the beach with her husband and pups whenever they can.
