The Story Of Andy Nelson’s Barbeque:

Our family has nearly a century old tradition of serving “Serious Barbecue.” Andy Sr. learned his labor of love from his dad, ‘Guy Nelson’ – Chief BBQ Man for Limestone County, Alabama.

In the 1950’s, Andy and wife Betty were not only attending Memphis State and raising a family, but they were also developing a BBQ style all on their own, integrating the spiciness of Memphis BBQ with the Old Nelson Family tradition.

Andy’s not famous just for his championship years with the Baltimore Colts; he’s also famous for his hickory smoked BBQ. Ask Andy and he’ll tell you that one of the secrets is slow cooking. “Our BBQ is smoked for many hours over hickory logs until it falls off the bone, and then it’s simmered in our own heirloom sauce”. Now-a-days you can still catch Andy at the restaurant tasting the food to make sure it’s “Andy Nelson Quality”, meeting the guests and even talking about his good old football days with the Baltimore Colts!

Regularly voted “Baltimore’s Best BBQ” by the staff and readers of Baltimore Magazine and the City Paper, this is one “Q” in Baltimore that you don’t want to miss. So let us take you and your guests down the Ol’ Mississippi with great “Q” in a relaxed southern friendly atmosphere. When you stop in to see us you’re even likely to hear a little Elvis background music (streamed from Andy’s iPod, of course). When you come in to get your Andy Nelson’s “Q” we recommend adding some extra fixin’s to compliment your meal like our homemade coleslaw or pork sausages.
