Maryland Renaissance Festival Opens THIS Weekend!

The Maryland Renaissance Festival is continuing its 50th season in Crownsville, transforming the village of Revel Grove into a lively world of jousting, music, feasting, shopping and royal intrigue every weekend through Oct. 25.

The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and features more than 200 performers across ten stages and taverns, three combat jousts each day, street entertainment and more than 140 merchants offering predominantly handcrafted goods. Visitors can also choose from dozens of food and beverage options throughout the village.

This season’s storyline takes place in 1540, when King Henry VIII and his newest wife, Anne of Cleves, arrive to celebrate Revel Grove’s 50th Harvest Festival. Although the royal couple appears friendly in public, village gossip suggests the marriage is already in trouble, and Henry is placing the blame on his chief minister, Thomas Cromwell.

There is also a great deal at stake for Revel Grove. The village’s 50-season royal charter is expiring, and the king must decide whether to renew it or award the honor to rival Tiddington.

Tickets are sold online only and are not available at the gate. Some dates may sell out, so advance purchases are recommended. Cash is required for beverages and games and is also useful when shopping with village merchants.
