Baltimore County to Host First-Ever Veteran Service Organization Summit

Summit will connect veteran service organizations with County resources and create opportunity to discuss how the County can better serve veterans and their families

TOWSON — The Baltimore County Commission on Veterans’ Affairs will host its first-ever Veteran Service Organization Summit on Thursday, September 3, bringing together veterans’ service organizations and veterans to strengthen collaboration and discuss how Baltimore County can better support the veteran community.

The summit will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Baltimore County Public Library’s Cockeysville Branch, located at 9833 Greenside Dr., Cockeysville. Veterans service organizations, their leadership and members, veterans, and veterans’ families are invited to attend.

Baltimore County is home to approximately 42,000 veterans. The summit will provide information about County services available to veterans, including resources related to mental health and homelessness, as well as connections to state, federal and nonprofit programs.

The event also will focus on listening to veterans and their families. Attendees will be invited to share what they would like to see from Baltimore County government and identify ways the County can better support the veteran community.

“Our veterans have earned their benefits. It’s our job to work hard and make sure they can use them,” said Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier. “But we’re not finished. I want to keep meeting with veterans, veterans service organizations and nonprofits to learn how we can do even more. When your nation called on you, you answered. Now, it’s time for Baltimore County to answer to you.”

The Baltimore County Commission on Veterans’ Affairs was reformed in 2022 to support veterans and their families and serve as a bridge between the veteran community and government agencies, businesses, educational institutions and veteran-serving organizations.

The summit will include remarks from County Executive Klausmeier, an overview of the Commission and County resources, a discussion of issues affecting veterans and their families, and a conversation about next steps.
