Last year, six middle-aged men in casual wear stood about on stage for two hours, playing rock songs made up of a handful of chords before a few fireworks went off at the end. Oh yes, and the singer balanced a tambourine on his head.

Reduced to its core elements, the Oasis reunion doesn’t sound like an earth-shattering event. As anyone who saw the band in stadiums the world over will confirm, however, some kind of communal magic happened that made it remarkable. On hand to capture the magic was the creator of Peaky Blinders, who is busy writing the new James Bond film (more of that later, but not much more): Steven Knight.
