Towson Earns Historic Win Over Navy

TOWSON, Md. – For the first time since Sept. 29, 1994, Towson University women's soccer defeated Navy. The Tigers came away victorious tonight 1-0.

"Navy is a tough opponent. I'm really proud of our effort this evening. So nice for Sophie to get her first goal and KP assisting from a set piece. Keagan and Teagan did their jobs in goal and earned their first combined clean sheet. This is a historic win and I couldn't be more thrilled with the fight our group displayed tonight," head coach Katherine Vettori said.

A goal from a Sophie Thibeault header in the 12th minute was enough to put the Tigers over the edge. Towson's defensive line held strong the west of the way to secure the clean sheet victory.

12' Towson Goal – Brooke Birrell took the corner. The ball landed at the feet of Emely Rubio towards the top of the box. Rubio tried to put the ball towards the center of the box, but it was deflected to Kale'a Perry who rifled a ball toward the goal. Thibeault got her head to it and redirected in the opposite direction of the diving Navy goalkeeper.
43' Towson Save – Towards the end of the first half Navy managed a shot towards the frame that tested Williams but she was able to prevent the late first half equalizer.
80' Towson Save – The last chance for the Midshipmen came in the 80th minute which Teagan Gardner prevented from going in, securing the Towson win.
