How to Order: The online tree seedling catalog is now open and accepting orders for spring 2027 planting at nursery.dnr.maryland.gov.
This year’s catalog features more than 51 species, with a few different choices from last year! Our seedling crop is growing very well and we have more than 3 million seedlings available.
If you are not sure which species are right for your needs, please call your local forestry office. They can answer questions about site conditions, species selection, and financial incentives for which you may qualify.
Established in 1914, the John S. Ayton State Tree Nursery is Maryland's state-operated forest nursery. Managed by the Maryland Forest Service, the nursery provides tree and shrub seedlings for reforestation, wildlife habitat improvement, watershed protection, and other conservation plantings. For more than a century, the nursery has supplied millions of seedlings to support forest conservation and stewardship throughout Maryland.

Seedling Use Requirements
The Maryland Forest Service recognizes the many benefits trees provide for landscaping and beautification. Homeowners and businesses seeking ornamental trees are encouraged to work with private nurseries, garden centers, and landscape professionals.
Payment: We accept all major credit cards. You will receive a confirmation email and receipt when your order is placed.
We provide free FedEx seedling delivery to your door
Your seedlings will ship in March or April depending on your address. You also have the option of picking up your seedlings at the nursery.

Every tree helps us reach the goal of planting 5 Million Trees by 2031.
Trees help fight climate change, absorb carbon, provide clean oxygen, and improve air quality in urban and rural areas. Marylanders can join the effort by planting and registering trees.
The best time to plant a tree is today. Learn more on our website.
