TOWSON MEN’S BASKETBALL USES BALANCED ATTACK IN AN 86-60 WIN AGAINST DELAWARE IN THE CAA QUARTERFINALS

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – Towson men's basketball assisted on 19 of 34 made shots in a wire-to-wire 86-60 win against Delaware in the 2023 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship Quarterfinals. Four Tigers reached double figures led by Nicolas Timberlake with 19.

    Towson (21-11) raced out to a big lead and never looked back against the Blue Hens (17-16), holding Delaware to 39 percent shooting from the floor.

    Key Stats:

    • Timberlake led the charge with 19 points on 8-11 shooting with nine rebounds and five assists.
    • Charles Thompson added 17 points with six rebounds. Sekou Sylla and Cam Holden also hit double figures, with Sylla scoring 16 and Holden adding 14.
    • Towson shot 60 percent from the floor and outrebounded Delaware 41-23.

    How It Happened:

    • Towson jumped out to a 7-2 lead at the under 16 timeout. Nicolas Timberlake had a pull up jumper to push the Tiger lead to five and then assisted on a Charles Thompson layup.
    • The Tigers would then rip off a 10-0 run, capped with a Nygal Russell three that forced a Delaware timeout with Towson in front 15-2.
    • The Towson defense would continue to stymie the Blue Hens offense, as their run extended to 16-0 to take a 21-2 lead with under 12 to go.
    • The Tiger defense was stout throughout the entire opening half, holding the Blue Hens to 28 percent shooting.
    • Cam Holden hit a big and one to get the lead out to 25, with Sekou Sylla adding a bucket to push the lead to 27. Towson would take a 46-20 lead into the break.
    • Towson used another 9-0 run to extend the lead after a Charles Thompson dunk.
    • Cam Holden had an and one of his own to push the lead out to 30.
    • Delaware put together a 9-0 spurt to cut the deficit, but Charles Thompson with back-to-back buckets ended the run.
    • Towson would continue their hot shooting, as Sekou Sylla split the defense for an easy bucket off the press.
    • The Tigers would continue their strong offensive night the rest of the way, defeating Delaware 86-60.

    Inside The Numbers:

    • Nicolas Timberlake moved into 8th on the all-time scoring list, passing Ralph Blalock.
    • Towson advances to the semifinal round for the second consecutive season.
    • The Tigers outrebounded their opponent for the 22nd time this year and are now 16-6 in those games.
