DeGuire eclipses 1,000 career saves, DeMan scores first collegiate goal in win at King’s

PITTSTON, Pa. - Stevenson Women's Ice Hockey earned the weekend sweep over UCHC and MAC opponent King's College this afternoon on the road. The Mustangs would pull ahead late in the third to break the two-goal tie before scoring an insurance empty netter and coming away with the 4-2 victory.

Sophomore Meghan Croyle was responsible for the lone goal of the first period, scoring on the Mustangs' penalty kill thanks to a setup from senior Gracie Payne. Croyle and Payne each contributed two points in last night's 4-3 victory.

King's would capitalize on their power-play in the second, leaving the game tied heading into the third. The hosts took the lead just 36 seconds into the third, prompting three straight Stevenson goals.

First year Carleigh Barwick notched her fourth goal of the season to re-tie the game, finding the back of the net on the King's power-play early in the third.

Classmate Emma DeMan would score her first collegiate goal exactly five minutes later to regain the Mustangs' lead for the final time. Barwick and sophomore Natasha Neelon assisted her in the process. The goal was DeMan's third point of the season while the assist were Barwick's sixth and Neelon's first.

Senior Franki Cappello would add her third goal of the season in a solo empty net effort with just shy of one minute remaining in the game.

In the circle, senior Cassie Campbell won a career-high 20 of 26 draws. The Mustangs won 40 face-offs overall. Classmate Gracie Payne was the lone Mustang to finish the game with a +3 rating while DeMan, Barwick, and sophomore Kendall Girnt were +2.

Between the pipes, junior Olivia DeGuire made history by notching her 1,000th career save. Today's game marks the 38th of her career, and her 30 saves against the Monarchs put her at 1,001 total.
