TEJADA SCORES 30 POINTS, TOWSON MEN’S BASKETBALL DOWNS MONMOUTH 80-61

TOWSON, Md. – Towson men's basketball bounced back with an 80-61 win against the Hawks on Thursday night, led by freshman Tyler Tejada who scored a career-high 30 points. The Tigers used a big 10-0 run in the first half to pull away from the Hawks.
Towson (17-11, 10-5 CAA) were led by Tejada with his career-best 30 points, adding six rebounds in the win against the Hawks. He is the first Tiger to score 30-plus points since Nicolas Timberlake did it against Charleston on February 23 last year with 34. Messiah Jones also reached double figures with 10 points grabbing five offensive rebounds.
Key Stats:
- Tejada was an efficient 10-15 from the floor and 4-7 from three. Jones went 3-4 from the floor.
- Charles Thompson had a strong effort with seven points and seven rebounds adding a team-best five assists.
- Towson shot 48 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Hawks 43-24 scoring 28 points in the paint.
How It Happened:
- Both teams battled back and forth through the first four minutes with the Tigers leading by two at the break.
- Towson would go on a 10-0 spurt over over three minutes, capped by a Mekhi Lowery and one that pushed the lead out to 14.
- The Tigers would lead by as many as 16 during the first 20 minutes but took a 44-32 lead into the locker room.
- Tejada led the Tigers with 11 points in the first 20 minutes with Messiah Jones adding 10 and five rebounds as Towson shot 56 percent from the field in the half.
- Coming out of the break, the Tigers would get out to an 18 point lead after a pair of Nendah Tarke free throws.
- The lead would ballon to 23 after back-to-back threes from Tejada that forced a Monmouth timeout.
- That would be more than enough for the Tigers, as Towson capped the game with a Chase Paar dunk off a pass from his brother Cole Paar, with the Tigers winning 80-61 on Thursday.
Inside The Numbers:
- Charles Thompson moved into second all-time in minutes played and now only trails Bill Leonard by 165 for first place all-time.
- This was the first 30-point for a Tiger since Nicolas Timberlake scored 34 points against Charleston on February 23 last season.
- The Tigers are now 104-42 all-time at TU Arena and are 12-1 this season at home.
