Emma Lorenzen named head women's volleyball coach
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson University has announced the hiring of Emma Lorenzen as its new head women's volleyball coach.
Lorenzen comes to Stevenson after spending time as the head coach of the 18s National Team of the Liberty Elite Volleyball Club, helping her student-athletes make the transition to D1 and D3 schools. A Maryland native, she was the assistant coach and the JV head coach of the North Hagerstown High School girls volleyball team. While at North Hagerstown, the team won the Maryland 3A state championship with an overall record of 19-1.
"We are happy to welcome Emma to the Stevenson community," said Stevenson University Director of Athletics Brett Adams. "Being a Division III student-athlete, she will help to ensure the continued success of our program."
She spent two seasons as the graduate assistant coach at St. Lawrence University from 2021 to 2023. She was responsible for practice plans and lineups in addition to focusing on the team's strength and conditioning programs. The Saints reached the Liberty League final for the first time since 2011 and also aided in bringing in a recruiting class of ten in just one year.
"I am both honored and thrilled to join Stevenson University as the head coach of the Women's Indoor Volleyball team," Lorenzen said. "I look forward to building upon the program's legacy of excellence that Coach Trumbo has left behind. I am excited to work closely with the talented athletes, athletic staff, and administration to achieve our goals both on the court and in the classroom."
"I am so thankful and forever in debt to Athletic Director Brett Adams and Assistant Athletic Director Jackie Boswell as they saw and trusted in the vision I have to take this program to the next level. I can't wait to make this University and community proud," she added.
Lorenzen is a Division III athlete, having competed at nearby McDaniel College from 2017 to 2021. During her time on the The Hill, she served as team captain and was the social media rep for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Graduating from McDaniel with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and Marketing in 2021, she earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership in 2023.
She spent her junior year at McDaniel as the head coach for a 15s and 16s U travel club with FCAMDVB in Westminster, Md., and was the head coach at Liberty High School during her senior year during the COVID-19 pandemic.
