Custodian Cleans up with $2 Million Lottery Win
Regular player overcome with excitement after scratching for tidy sum
She’s been picking up after other people and making things tidy for them for more than two decades, said the Elkridge woman, who really cleaned up with the recent purchase of a $30 Maryland Lottery scratch-off. She won the tidy sum of $2 million.
The windfall allows the player and her husband, who moved their family to the United States 25 years ago, to make retirement plans, she said after claiming the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. They want to take their time getting their finances in solid order, so the Howard County residents anticipate retiring in two years.
Accompanied by her daughter, who helped transcend a language barrier, the winner said she is a regular when it comes to playing Lottery games. She enjoys Mega Millions, Powerball and a range of scratch-off games. It was the $30 200X the Cash scratch-off that generated the big win.
The daughter told the story of what happened when her mom won. Her mother phoned her and was very excited and emotional.
“I thought she was in a car accident,” the daughter said. It quickly became evident, however, that the excitement was driven by happiness. The mom took a photo of the winning instant ticket and sent it via text message to her daughter’s phone.
However, the daughter isn’t a Lottery player and didn’t understand what the photo showed. Her mom explained that the top left box on the instant ticket with the number 35 and the amount $2,000,000 in it matched the number 35 in the winning numbers row. In short order, they were both screaming with delight.
The winner said she plans to continue playing the Lottery because she enjoys the games. She bought the lucky scratch-off at the Giant grocery store at 10210 Mill Run Circle in Owings Mills. The Baltimore County store receives a Lottery bonus of $2,000 for selling a $2 million top-prize winning scratch-off.
The 200X The Cash game went on sale in December 2023 and still has two $2 million top prizes remaining, along with four unclaimed $50,000 prizes and five $10,000 prizes.
