During Tuesday evening's Baltimore County Council work session, all members of the council agreed to sign on as sponsors to Resolution 45-24 put forth by Councilmen Kach, Marks and Council Chair Patoka. Resolution 45-24 declares Baltimore County Council's clear opposition to the proposed MPRP.
With unanimous support for this important resolution, it will on the agenda for a final vote during the council's legislative session on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 6:00 PM.
The council members expressed serious concerns about the potential impact of this project. Stop MPRP, Inc. greatly appreciates Councilman Kach's leadership in this effort. Councilman Crandell commented that a delay in a project of this sort often has the added benefit of forcing a better solution for the future.
Several Stop MPRP, Inc. members provided testimony to the council which was well received. We are grateful for our many supporters - we are strong together. We would also like to express our appreciate for Renee Hamidi of Valleys Planning Council for her comments to the council.
The introduction to the resolution follows. You can read the full text here starting on page 36.
"Resolution 45-24 opposes the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project (“MPRP”) and: (1) encourages the Maryland Public Service Commission (“PSC”) to reject the MPRP; (2) encourages the Maryland General Assembly to require that all Maryland public utilities conduct a full Integrated Resource Plan bi-annually that is evaluated by the PSC; and (3) encourages State elected leaders to establish and implement a Maryland Coordinated Planning Group as a collaborative organization to play a key role in planning and coordinating the electric transmission system in Maryland."
We greatly appreciate the council's efforts to help project our farms and families.
