Soccer Duo's Journey from Sweden to Towson Leads to Success On and Off the Field
Towson University soccer players Demi Pierre and Maja Hansson grew up in Sweden - more than 4,000 miles from Towson. Neither was certain of playing college soccer in the United States until head coach Katherine Vettori paid a recruiting visit in June 2018.
Six and a half years later, the duo will leave Towson in December with college degrees and decorated careers – helping the Tigers win the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) championship last season.
Pierre arrived in fall 2019, a year before Hansson. In her second career game, she scored two goals in a victory over Mount St. Mary's. One week later, she tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee and missed the remainder of the season. She battled back and was named Third Team All-CAA in 2024. Earlier this month, she played in her 85th game – the most in program history.
Hansson has flourished as the Tigers' center back the last five seasons – starting every game she has played and earning all-conference honors the last two seasons.
This video takes a look at the journey of pair, who will play key roles in Sunday's CAA matchup versus Monmouth. VIDEO HERE
