TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team faced Hampton in the second of two matches vs. the Lady Pirates this weekend. The Tigers swept Hampton in three sets at TU Arena in Towson, Md.
After a 3-1 Tiger lead to open the first set, Hampton scored five straight to take an early three-point edge.
Towson tied it up with three straight points, including a kill each from Barrett and Ava Nakai.
In an 8-7 deficit, Towson scored four straight points on a kill each from Erin Brothers and Abdul-Rahim. Maisie Jesse added two service aces in the run.
At 11-9, Towson scored nine of the next ten points to take a 20-10 lead.
At 22-13, Towson scored three straight points to win the first set 25-13.
In set two, Towson opened with an early 7-2 edge.
At 8-4, Towson scored three straight, followed by four straight from Hampton to make it an 11-8 score in set two.
With a 12-10 lead, Towson scored four-straight points to extend their lead to six.
With a five-point lead at 18-13, Towson scored five of the next six points to make it 23-14.
After three straight Hampton points, Towson scored the final two in a row to win the second set 25-17.
Set three opened with a 5-4 Tiger lead. Towson then scored three straight to extend their lead to four.
At 11-7, Towson scored five straight points, including two kills each from Barrett and De Mango.
At 17-9, Towson scored six of the next seven points. De Mango, Sarah Callender, Brothers and Barrett each picked up at least one kill in the run.
Hampton then scored three of the next four points to pull it to 24-14.
Victoria Barrett solidified the final set will a kill to win 25-14. The Tigers won the match three sets to none.
Inside the Numbers
Ylenia De Mango posted her fourth match with double-digit kills. She had a season-high .833 hitting percentage in the match.
Zyare Abdul-Rahim picked up her seventh match with double-digit kills. She's done so in three of the Tigers' last four matches.
Sarah Callender matched her season-high with three service aces. It is her third match this season with three aces.
Up Next The Tigers will face the Elon Phoenix on the road at the Schar Center on Saturday and Sunday.
