TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team faced Elon in the first match of a two-match series on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers defeated the Phoenix in four sets at the Schar Center in Elon, N.C.
Victoria Barrett led all players with 21 kills in the match. Maisie Jesse led the field with 23 assists in the match. Kaitlyn Moran added 22, second-most in the match.

How it Happened
Towson opened the first set with a 6-2 lead.
After a Phoenix point, Towson scored four straight points to extend the lead to 10-3.
With a 12-6 lead, the Tigers scored seven straight points for a commanding 19-6 advantage.
Towson closed the set scoring three of the last four points. Barrett ended the set with a kill to win 25-12.
The Tigers opened set two scoring seven of the first eight points.
After an Elon point, Towson scored five of the next six to push the lead to 12-3.
With a 15-8 lead, the Tigers scored six of the next seven to take a 21-9 lead.
Ava Nakai ended the set with a kill to win 25-14 and take a 2-0 set lead.
The third set opened with a 6-6 tie.
Moments later, Elon went on an 8-2 run to take a 14-8 lead in the set.
Towson followed that with scores on eight of the next nine points to take a 16-15 lead.
In a 19-18 deficit, the Phoenix scored four straight points to take a 22-19 lead.
Three straight Tiger points tied the game before Elon scored three straight points to win set three 25-22.
Elon opened the fourth set with a 4-0 lead.
In a 6-4 deficit, Towson scored six-straight points to take a 10-6 lead.
With a 10-8 lead, Towson won six of the next seven points to extend its lead to 16-9.
The Phoenix then scored five-straight to pull it within two.
At 21-19, Towson scored four straight points with a kill each from Barrett and Sarah Callenderto win the set 25-19.
The Tigers won the match three sets to one.
Inside the Numbers
With 21 kills in today's match, Barrett eclipsed 1,000 kills in her Towson career.
Jesse finished with 23 assists while Moran totaled 22. It is the sixth match this season where both have finished with 20 or more assists.
Sydney Stewart finished with 16 digs, it is her 12th match this season with 15 or more digs.
