OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University men's basketball team ran its record to 3-0 on the young season, defeating Brooklyn in the title game of the Marriott Owings Mills Metro Centre Mustang Classic with a 63-49 win over Brooklyn on Saturday.
Cameron Smith scored 13 points and added in seven rebounds, earning MVP honors for the two-day classic, while Joey Lutz added in 12 points as he was named to the All-Tournament team.
Cameron Sapienza scored 11 off the bench for the Mustangs who held Brooklyn to just 18 points in the first half.
The Mustangs opened the game on a 7-2 run and never trailed, while forcing 18 Bulldog (1-3) turnovers in the win.
Myles Jackson had four steals for Stevenson, as Lutz also added in six rebounds. Mason Jones tied Smith with seven rebounds each.
This is Stevenson's best start since the Mustangs went 3-0 to start the season back in the 2017-18 season.
Stevenson will next be in action on Saturday, November 23, as the Mustangs host Maryland-rival St. Mary's. In the consolation game, Carlow defeated PSU-Berks 88-82.
