Reisterstown Road Plaza Launches First Stage Of Revitalization Plans
Receives Governor Moore’s Baltimore Vacants Reinvestment Initiative Award Of $1,000,000 In Partnership With CHAI
Tide Realty Capital, a local real estate investment management and advisory firm, announced that the initial phase of their plans to revitalize the Reisterstown Road Plaza is underway. This phase includes remodeling the main entrance of the mall and upgrading the exterior façade to bring a clean, cohesive look to the 750,000 square foot property. This is the first of multiple development stages and is expected to complete within the first half of the year.
This announcement coincides with the Reisterstown Road Plaza project’s inclusion as one of 37 revitalization projects recognized by Governor Wes Moore to receive a combined $20M as part of the Baltimore Vacants Reinvestment Initiative (BVRI). The grant of $1,000,000 to this project is a powerful endorsement by the governor, underscoring the importance of The Plaza and the positive change Tide Realty is working to bring to the property and surrounding communities.
“The Governor’s recognition of our redevelopment plans for The Plaza is truly an honor,” stated Tide Realty Capital’s founder, Aaron Loeb. “We are dedicated to transforming The Plaza into a vibrant, dynamic space for the community and are thrilled that our vision is supported at the highest level of the state.”
Tide Realty Capital partnered with the local nonprofit Comprehensive Housing Assistance Inc. (CHAI) to help secure BVRI funding for Reisterstown Road Plaza. The two organizations continue to collaborate on revitalizing “The Plaza,” transforming the beloved community landmark into a modern, thriving cultural hub for the people of northwest Baltimore. CHAI’s CEO, Lisa Budlow, added, “Tide Realty’s investment in The Plaza will benefit our neighbors in northwest Baltimore and the entire community. Folks are excited to come back to shop and looking forward to the presence of community space. We are thrilled that The Plaza owners are joining CHAI and many other partners through the Northwest Baltimore Partnership to add value and vitality to northwest Baltimore.”
The Baltimore Vacants Reinvestment Initiative, an arm of Reinvest Baltimore, is intended to eliminate vacant and deteriorating properties in Baltimore City and make way for green space, affordable and mixed-use housing, and new opportunities for businesses. This initial stage of the redevelopment of Reisterstown Road Plaza epitomizes the BVRI mission.
“We are proud to partner with Tide Realty and to support the revitalization of The Plaza. From day one, their team began reaching out to community stakeholders and have never turned down an invitation to meet with community groups and partners. Their work on The Plaza is a boon for all of northwest Baltimore.” said Larry Schugam, CHAI’s Senior Director of Community Development.
Future plans at The Plaza include greening efforts in partnership with Baltimore Tree Trust, expanding business opportunities with imminent openings of new retailers, and creating event spaces available to local community organizations – many of which are already taking advantage of the available space.
The Reisterstown Road Plaza has been a cornerstone of the community since it first opened in 1962 and has served as a community hub in the decades since. The added investment from the BVRI bolsters the efforts to not only revitalize The Plaza, but to also reinvigorate the surrounding community, improve their quality of life, and maximize the economic potential of the region.
