MDOT MVA does not have a process by which customers can scan and upload REAL ID documents to our website. In order to get a REAL ID, you must bring your documents in person to an MDOT MVA branch. Any website claiming to provide this service is not affiliated with MDOT MVA.
Countdown to REAL ID Compliance:
May 7, 2025
Effective May 7, 2025 federal requirements will require you to be compliant with the REAL ID Act. Having a REAL ID compliant driver’s license or ID card will be necessary to board commercial aircraft or gain access to federal facilities.
To be considered REAL ID compliant, you must have the required (original or certified copy)documents on file with the MDOT MVA. To find out if you are Real ID compliant, visit our REAL ID Lookup Tool. If the Lookup Tool indicates you must provide REAL ID documents, MDOT MVA will provide next steps on how to make an appointment and submit REAL ID documents.
The Real ID Core Four are the four documents you’ll need to verify who you are and where you live. One Proof of Age and Identity, One Proof of Social Security and TWO Proofs of Maryland residency. Don’t leave for your MDOT MVA visit without them!
NEW: MDOT MVA may already have social security documents on file! Visit our REAL ID Look Up Tool with your driver’s license number to confirm if we have your verified social security documentation. If verified that proof of social security is on file with MDOT MVA, you will not need to bring it to your appointment.
