Officials break ground on Towson High School renovation, addition

TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County Public Schools, County officials, and elected leaders officially broke ground Thursday on a massive $288 million renovation and addition project for Towson High School.

The ceremony was attended by BCPS Superintendent Dr. Myriam Rogers, Baltimore County Executive Katherine Klausmeier, members of the Board of Education, the Baltimore County Council, the Baltimore County delegation, and a member of Congress.

The extensive project involves major improvements to the historic, 1940s-era sections of the school building, paired with the construction of a new, five-story classroom addition.

Upon its expected completion in 2030, the improvements will dramatically increase the school’s capacity from its current 1,260 seats to 1,739 seats. The overall size of Towson High School will expand from 205,313 square feet to a total of 343,568 square feet.

While the main building work is scheduled for completion in 2030, the full restoration of playing fields and athletic amenities is slated to be finished by August 2031.
