Towson University Athletics has received a transformational $1 million commitment from the Constance & Brooks Robinson Charitable Foundation, Inc. in support of the Campaign for Excellence, the department's $12 million fundraising initiative fueling $40 million in capital projects designed to enhance the student-athlete experience.
This generous investment from the Robinson Family Foundation marks one of the largest single gifts in Towson Athletics history and reflects a deep belief in the power of education, leadership, and teamwork.
"The Robinson family's commitment embodies the spirit of excellence we strive for at Towson," said Towson University Vice President of Athletics Steve Eigenbrot. "Their generosity will make an immediate and lasting impact on our student-athletes and help us continue building championship-level experiences across all of our programs."
The Constance & Brooks Robinson Charitable Foundation, founded by Baseball Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson and his wife, Constance, has long been dedicated to supporting youth, education, healthcare, veterans, and the arts. Their son, Brooks David Robinson '83, serves as President of the Foundation and continues the family's legacy of service and philanthropy throughout the region.
"Towson University's vision for excellence and community aligns perfectly with the values that have always guided our family," said Brooks D. Robinson. "As an alumnus, it's especially meaningful to give back to a place that helped shape my own personal and professional journey. We're proud to support TU Athletics and the opportunities it creates for student-athletes to achieve success on the field, in the classroom, and beyond."
The Campaign for Excellence, officially launched in November 2024, represents the most ambitious fundraising effort in Towson Athletics history. The campaign supports a comprehensive vision to strengthen the student-athlete experience and elevate facilities across all 19 varsity sports. To date, Towson Athletics has raised more than $3.3 million toward its $12 million Campaign for Excellence goal, signaling strong early momentum and support from the Tiger community.
"This gift demonstrates the power of partnership and the enduring impact of philanthropy," said Towson University President Mark Ginsberg. "We are deeply grateful to the Robinson Family Foundation for believing in our mission and helping advance the future of Towson Athletics."
Phase I of the initiative includes more than $28 million in enhancements focused on expanding and modernizing the Towson Center Field House. Plans call for renovations to over 17,000 square feet of existing space and an addition of 12,600 square feet, creating new and improved team meeting rooms, an expanded Soistman Athletics Academic Achievement Center, a renovated training room, and a new Fueling Zone to meet student-athletes' nutritional needs.
The project will also unify the weight rooms and turf training areas to create a state-of-the-art Sports Performance Center designed to serve more than 500 student-athletes. Groundbreaking for Phase I is planned for Spring 2026. Phase II will focus on transforming the Towson Center Gym, adding two enclosed court spaces and a 15,000-square-foot indoor turf area to enhance training, competition, and community engagement opportunities.
