Baltimore County weather monitoring to be featured on MPT’s ‘Outdoors Maryland’

OWINGS MILLS, MD—Maryland Public Television‘s award-winning original series, Outdoors Maryland, returned for its 37th season on Tuesday, November 11, and Baltimore County will be featured in one of the new, highly anticipated segments.

The long-running series, produced in cooperation with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), continues to showcase memorable stories about the state’s natural resources and the people who work to protect them.

Segment Highlights Local Weather Data

The segment featuring Baltimore County will premiere during the Tuesday, November 18, episode. Titled “Scattered Towers,” the story focuses on a critical statewide initiative:

  • Maryland Mesonet: The segment follows James Hyde and a team from the University of Maryland as they build the Maryland Mesonet—a statewide network of weather monitoring stations. This network expands across the state to gather critical meteorological data, helping to predict weather-related challenges and train the next generation of meteorologists.
  • BWI Connection: The story also highlights how tracking weather patterns is vital for aviation at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, where one specialist uses both technology and observational skills to ensure flight safety. Baltimore County is one of the three counties, along with Frederick and Talbot, mentioned in the segment’s focus area.
