Mandolin String Ensemble

You’ve seen a mandolin at bluegrass or Celtic concerts, but have you ever seen an entire ensemble of mandolins? The Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra – a Baltimore tradition since 1924 – plays an eclectic mix of mandolin arrangements ranging from rags, marches, and dance and pop tunes to short classical gems, grand Italian romantic pieces, and contemporary compositions.

But you’ll hear more than mandolins! This concert features some of the more exotic lower-range members of the mandolin family as well – mandolas, mandocellos and mandobasses – plus some classical guitars. For color and variety, the orchestra often features different instruments (e.g., woodwinds, brass) and vocal numbers.
