Bring your bib and get a large drink! This place isn’t focused on manners, it’s all about the food. The southern pit barbeque at Andy Nelson’s, will have your mouth watering before you even open the front door. The food keeps to it’s southern character with a little bit of kick and overloaded “Sa’m’wiches.” The restaurant may even be more popular for it’s catering around town.

When you walk in you’ll notice a laid back atmosphere, where the main clientele seem to be straight from a small-town movie. It’s a place where cowboys and farmers can fill up on a massive “Jumbo Pulled Pork BBQ Sa’m’which,” and families can sit down for a delicious, southern, home-cooked taste of heaven.
As you search the chalkboard menu for your perfect choice meal, the girls behind the counter will help you decide, with southern hospitality. As you get your drink you’ll be drawn in by old photographs and honors of Andy Nelson, Baltimore Colt’s World Champion.
Filled with piggy memorabilia, the cheery restaurant has a order-at-the-counter and seat yourself operation. With fast moving cooks, or maybe more suitably “grill masters,” your food will be called within moments with a short and sweet, “Twenty-three come get your grub!”
The Nelson family has a history nearly a century old of serving serious barbeque, and a tradition that proves to satisfy locals. Voted “Best Barbeque,” in Baltimore Magazine for three years, Andy Nelson’s continues to be a favorite amongst Baltimorians for catering as well.Robby Issenock, 21-year-old Hunt Valley resident and fan of Andy’s, took a minute away from his “Grandpa Guy’s Trifecta,” which includes a half slab of memphis style ribs, and your choice of two BBQ meats from their list, to say, “I’ve grown up with family parties, graduations, football games, and any other events always being catered by Andy’s, and I’ve never had a better barbeque.”

Not many restaurants have a more southern selection of side options than, “Grandma’s Cole Slaw, Andy’s BBQ Beans, redskin potato salad, collard greens, stewed tomatoes, macaroni and cheese, cornbread, and BBQ ‘tater wedges.” Once you choose your main course, you can fill your plate up with two of the hearty sides, and fill up with an ice-cold fresh-tasting lemonade.
As you sit down in one of the restaurant’s farm-house style rooms, you’ll feel as though you’ve sat down to eat at a summertime family reunion. On your way out, don’t forget to stop by and grab one of Andy’s special BBQ sauces to take home, as they have a full selection next to the counter. And if you’re a true fan, grab a t-shirt or hat too.
