Towson University raises nine figures in largest-ever fundraising campaign

Story by Baltimore Business JournalĀ

Towson University announced the completion of the largest fundraising campaign in the university's history, with much of the money raised earmarked for research and boosting its endowment.

The $102 million RISE campaign focused on getting donors to fund programs at Towson that often go unsupported by state money or tuition dollars, such as faculty research, student programs and equipment to supplement capital projects, Vice President of University Advancement Brian DeFilippis said. The funding is part of a new era for the public school as it tries to boost its national prestige after the recent selection of Mark Ginsberg as president.

Around 30% of the money raised in the RISE campaign will go to the endowment, 56% will go to operations and programming and 8% will support capital projects. The rest of the campaign is made up of unrestricted donations or funds directed toward scholarships.
