WASHINGTON, D.C. – Towson men's basketball outscored the Seahawks by 11 in the second half to push past UNCW, 66-56 in the 2024 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship. Three Tigers reached double figures in the win.

Towson (20-13) earns their third straight 20-win season for the first time in program history with the win over the Seahawks (21-10). The win also advances the Tigers to the semifinal round for the third consecutive season.

Charles Thompson also became the third Tiger to reach 1,000 career rebounds in the contest.

    Key Stats:

    • Dylan Williamson led the Tigers with 18 points going a perfect 11-11 from the charity stripe. Nendah Tarke chipped in 15 points and five rebounds, including a big offensive rebound late.
    • Mekhi Lowery added 10 points and team-best seven rebounds in the win.
    • Towson shot 48 percent for the floor and held the Seahawks to just 4-21 from three. The Towson bench outscored the UNCW bench 20-2.

    How It Happened:

    • Towson would take an early lead thanks to a corner three from Tomiwa Sulaiman. However both teams would find their groove early on with there being eight ties and seven lead changes over the first 20 minutes.
    • Neither team would lead by more than two for most of the half. The Seahawks would take a three-point lead with three minutes to go and that would extend to five with less than a minute to go.
    • Tyler Tejada made it just a one-point deficit at the half, beating the buzzer with a three quarter court heave to make it 30-29 UNCW at the break.
    • Dylan Williamson led the Tigers with eight points with Mekhi Lowery adding six. Towson shot 50 percent from the floor and got 13 points from the bench in the opening 20 minutes.
    • Towson would jump out to a four-point lead after Tyler Tejada drilled a three from the top of the key. However, the Seahawks would hold a one-point lead at the under 12 timeout as both teams battled back and forth.
    • The Tigers would put together an 8-0 run after the timeout that gave them a 46-39 lead with just under 10 minutes to go, capped by a Lowery dunk.
    • UNCW would not go quietly. The Seahawks got the Tiger lead down to just two with less than four minutes to go, but big plays down the stretch including a block from Mekhi Lowery sealed the win for the Tigers on Sunday.

    Inside The Numbers:

    • Charles Thompson became just the third Tiger in program history to reach 1,000 career rebounds.
    • The Tigers won their 20th game this season, their third straight 20-win campaign. That mark is a program record for most consecutive 20-win seasons.

    Next Game:

    • Towson will advance to the semifinal round of the 2024 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship to take on the top seed Charleston on Monday, Mar. 11. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. and will air nationally on CBS Sports Network.
