Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 1

By TEAM BCPS

Save the date to attend Let’s Play Ball! 2024, hosted by The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools, Inc., in partnership with The Baseball Warehouse, LLC, League of Dreams, Inc., and supported by BCPS Allied Sports, Jon Lamb Awards and Engraving, Leveling the Playing Field, Media Star Promotions, and the Ed Reed Foundation.

We cordially invite you to place a softball-sized circle on your calendar to partake in a day of fun-filled activities at the third annual Let’s Play Ball! fundraising event, which will take place on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology. BCPS Superintendent Dr. Myriam Rogers and former WBAL-TV education reporter Dr. Tim Tooten will serve as honorary chairs for the event.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology.

The day will begin with a skills clinic facilitated by League of Dreams for BCPS middle and high school allied sports coaches and athletes. Participating students will take the field to enjoy the game of baseball, rotating through a series of stations designed to teach and strengthen skills, build teamwork, and empower students. Bringing together athletes of all abilities from across the county, friendships are formed based on understanding, sensitivity, and trust.

The star-studded BCPS Allied Sports Clinic will be facilitated by Frank Kolarek, League of Dreams founder, Mick Bordick, chair of the League of Dreams Board of Directors, and a group of diverse volunteers. The clinic is supported by Mike Sye, BCPS coordinator, Office of Athletics, and Brad Kressman, resource teacher, Allied Sports Program.

The clinic will be followed by a local celebrity Home Run Derby. Come watch as local celebrities compete against former baseball legends to see who can score the most points and aim to hit the ball out of the park for the most homeruns! Stay tuned for more information about our celebrity participants.

And, once again, Team BCPS administrators will square off against Team BCPS educators in a star-studded softball game supported by The Baseball Warehouse. The teams will be coached by All-Star Major League baseball legends Mike Bordick and Rick Dempsey. Bordick is an ambassador for The Baseball Warehouse, a member of the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame, and played Major League Baseball for 14 years. Dempsey is a partner for The Baseball Warehouse, a member of the Orioles Hall of Fame, and played Major League Baseball for 24 years. On the mound for this star-studded game of softball will be Matt Morris, a four-year letterman at Franklin High School who signed his first professional contract as a free agent in 2008. Stay tuned for player registration information!

Throughout the day, attendees will also enjoy visiting a variety of kiosks in Vendor Village, purchasing their favorite cuisine from various food trucks, listening to live music and celebrating with school and celebrity mascots, cheerleaders, neighbors, friends, and families. Come celebrate by cheering on student allied sports athletes, teachers, and administrators from across BCPS. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are available. Proceeds will be dedicated to developing and managing grants, scholarships, and special initiatives that advance educational outcomes.
