"Designing With Nature: The Plan for the Valleys" Documentary Showing
To recognize the importance of land conservation and to commemorate Earth Day, the Maryland Horse Library & Education Center will show the documentary Designing with Nature: The Plan for the Valleys on Monday, April 22.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Valleys Planning Council commissioned independent filmmaker Allen Moore to film a documentary that celebrates the successes of the Valleys Planning Council in land-use planning in Baltimore County over five decades.
'Designing with Nature: The Plan for the Valleys' is a smart growth success story. It features the work of renowned landscape architect Ian McHarg, one of the consultants who prepared the original, ecology-based landscape plan to direct growth and preserve rural land in Baltimore County, Maryland.
The film reveals the splendor of the many valleys that have been spared the onslaught of sprawl development, documents the substantial economic and environmental benefits of containing growth, and explains how a citizen-led organization has made a tremendous difference in how the area was planned and developed. The film explores the work over five decades of a dedicated group of citizens that created and continue to support a very effective local, non-profit, land-use planning organization.
