NO. 21 TOWSON GYMNASTICS QUALIFIES FOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

    TOWSON, Md. -The Towson University gymnastics team is headed to Gainesville, Florida to compete in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

    The top-36 nationally ranked gymnastics teams qualify for the NCAA tournament. The Tigers, champions of the 2024 East Atlantic Gymnastic League, finished the regular season ranked 21st.

    Towson will face No.5 Utah, No.12 Michigan State and No.26 Maryland in a quad meet on April 5 at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The teams that finish first and second at the meet will advance to round three on April 7 in Gainesville.

    The Tigers earned their second consecutive EAGL Championship title, winning the meet on Saturday, March 23 with a final score of 197.300.

    This will be Towson's fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships. Last year, the Black & Gold competed against Penn State in the first round at the Pittsburgh Regionals. The Tigers fell to the Nittany Lions, 195.450-195.700, after a close back-and-forth battle. 

    Polina Belanovski, Isabella Minervini, Clara Hong and Carmella Calafati picked up individual first-place finishes in all four events. Minervini, Belanovski and Vaillancourt competed the following day as individuals in the second round against gymnasts from Maryland, Arizona State and Florida. Minervini placed second overall on bars with a 9.950.

    The Tigers will be in for tough competition as they will be competing against two other conference champions. Michigan State won the Big Ten Championship on Saturday with a 197.500 while Maryland took fifth after posting a 196.775. Utah won the Pac-12 Championship, scoring a 198.000.
