Local personnel honored at Maryland State Police awards ceremony

TIMONIUM — The Maryland State Police hosted its annual awards ceremony at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, which included recognition of several people from the McHenry Barrack.

    Lt. Michael Sigmund, barrack commander, reported that sworn personnel and civilian staff were recognized for their outstanding contributions.

    Maryland Department of State Police Superintendent Col. Roland L. Butler Jr. presented awards for outstanding service and recognized employees of the year for the department, including the announcement of the statewide Trooper, Non-Commissioned Officer, Emergency Dispatcher Supervisor, Emergency Dispatcher and Civilian Employee of the Year for 2023.

    The annual Maryland State Police Awards Ceremony was held at the Maryland State Fairgrounds and was attended by families, friends and co-workers of award recipients. Awards were also presented for incidents involving troopers and employees who went above and beyond the call of duty while serving and protecting the people of Maryland.

    Among those honored from Garrett County were Dispatcher III Charles Mort, who was awarded the title of 2023 Emergency Dispatcher of the Year; Cpl. David Wagoner, who received the 2023 Non-Commissioned Officer award; Administrative Aide Sandra Vincent, acknowledged as the 2023 Civilian Personnel awardee; Tfc. Robert Hook, named the 2023 Trooper of the Year; Tfc. Cody Bradley, recipient of the Governor’s Citation; and Brian Chaney, recognized as the 2023 Emergency Dispatcher Supervisor.

    Sigmund reported that Tfc. Cody Bradley was honored with the Governor’s Citation for his heroic actions in saving a victim from a vehicle fire in 2022 in Worcester County during his time at MSP Berlin Barrack.
