Towson University Student Wins $125,000 on The Big Spin Wheel

Claims third of eight wheel-spin prizes on THE BIG SPIN scratch-off

A Harford County resident stopped by Edgewood Convenience Store on May 20 to pick up three Maryland Lottery scratch-offs to add to her boyfriend’s graduation gift. Even though she rarely plays the Lottery, she also decided to buy a ticket for herself.

And that turned out to be one of the best decisions she’s made.

The 21-year-old bought THE BIG SPIN ticket and took it home. When she scratched it, she revealed a “SPIN” symbol, so she returned to the store to scan the ticket and reveal her prize. She was shocked when the clerk at the store told her she would have to take her ticket to Lottery headquarters, because she was about to become the latest winner to spin The Big Spin Wheel.

“I read the back of the ticket and made an appointment to come to the Lottery to spin the wheel,” said the winner, a student at Towson University who chose the nickname “Lucky Tiger.”

With her mother watching through FaceTime on her phone, “Lucky Tiger” visited the Winner’s Circle room at the Lottery’s office in Baltimore on May 22 and spun the 6-foot-tall wheel. She anxiously watched as the wheel kept spinning, waiting to see where it would land. Players whose tickets earn them a spin of The Big Spin Wheel can win prizes ranging from $50,000 to $250,000. “Lucky Tiger’s” spin came to a stop on a $125,000 prize.

She had two things to celebrate that day. In addition to winning her Lottery prize, she was headed to her boyfriend’s college graduation that afternoon.

“Lucky Tiger” was the third person to land a wheel-spin prize. A Baltimore mom won $100,000 on The Big Spin Wheel on May 6, and a Baltimore County Vietnam veteran won $90,000 in his spin on May 21. The Big Spin is a $5 scratch-off game that launched on April 22, and five of its wheel-spin top prizes remain unclaimed, along with thousands of instant-win prizes ranging from $5 to $50,000.

When asked what she planned to do with her prize, the winner said she intends to use most of it toward her tuition.

For selling the winning ticket, Edgewood Convenience Store at 700 Edgewood Road in Harford County will receive a $1,000 bonus.
