Reisterstown Great-Grandma Scores $200,000 Ravens Scratch-Off Prize

Betty Hughes of Reisterstown is planning a purple Christmas for her family after winning $200,000 on a Ravens X10 scratch-off.

Plans to make the holidays bright for her extended family

It’s going to be a purple Christmas for Betty Hughes of Reisterstown, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, thanks to her $200,000 win on the $10 Ravens X10 scratch-off.

She and her family members are avid fans of both the Lottery and the Ravens, the winner said on Dec. 13 when she and one of her daughters visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the windfall. Betty has three adult children, seven grandchildren and 18 great-grand-children, with another three expected in coming weeks and months. Her plan is to share her winnings with them.

Betty and her daughter (the same one who brought her to Lottery headquarters) were shopping recently at the Giant grocery store at 11604 Reisterstown Road in Reisterstown when Lottery luck arrived on the scene.

“We always stop by the machines,” her daughter said. Betty scratched off her instant ticket on the spot.

“We were shocked when she scratched off that football,” her daughter said. On the game, you win either by matching numbers or uncovering a prize amount with a football in the square.

Betty instructed her daughter, “Be quiet. We’ve got to get to the car.”

Asked if she plans to continue playing the Lottery, Betty had an enthusiastic reply: “Oh, you know it.”

For its role in selling a top-prize winning scratch-off, the Baltimore County Giant receives a Lottery bonus of $1,000.
