West Virginia State Fair Marks 100 Years

The State Fair of West Virginia is celebrating its centennial — sort of.
“We were established as the Greenbrier Valley Fair on March 19th, 1921,” said Kelly Collins, who became CEO in 2015 at age 26.
The annual event, established when a group of farmers built a harness racetrack to showcase local agriculture and encourage economic activity, became the official state fair in 1941.
It took a hiatus from 1942 to 1945 due to World War II and again in 2020 because of the pandemic.
