Lower School's First-Ever Spelling Bee

Spelling takes skill, but stepping onto the stage takes courage

On Monday, February 2, McDonogh held its first-ever Lower School spelling bee. The competition grew out of an after-school Spelling Bee Club open to interested students, created to help participants strengthen their vocabulary, public speaking, and critical thinking skills while preparing for future spelling bee opportunities. Through weeks of practice and preparation, students built both academic skills and confidence.

Fourth grader Indy was named the winner of the competition, but every participant demonstrated focus, determination, and the courage to share their talents in front of an audience. We are proud of all the spellers who made this inaugural event such a meaningful success.

One winner was crowned and every contestant in first through fourth grade showed confidence, focus, and heart. We’re so proud of all the spellers.
