After serving Ocean City for 66 years, Phillips Crab House has permanently closed. At 2004 N. Philadelphia Ave., it was Phillips Seafood's original location and an institution that had lines around the building all season long. Its success spurred expansion into Baltimore when Harbor Place once also thrived.
Phillips Seafood has since grown into a regional seafood company. Renowned for its seafood, Phillips operates restaurants in free-standing buildings, airports and casinos along the East Coast and online.
In a Facebook post, the Phillips family said it was "extremely difficult" to close the Ocean City eatery. They did not say why the restaurant has closed. Ocean City is the most popular tourist destination for Baltimore families in the summer, and becomes the 2nd largest city in Maryland during these months. Most likely it is due to pandemic woes hurting most restaurants.
"Not many restaurants live to see their 50th season, let alone celebrate over 65 years, and our family credits the amazing Crab House team for giving the business such longevity," the family wrote in the post. Here is a story of the great history PHILLIPS HUMBLE START
