Most People Don't Know These 14 Movies Were Filmed In Maryland

Hollywood is on the other side of the country from the Old Line State, but sometimes it comes to us. We all know there are beautiful places in Maryland gorgeous enough to be in the movies, but some actually have been. There have been plenty of movies filmed in Maryland, plus others that were set in Maryland. From Baltimore to the eastern shore, we’ve got areas all over the state that have been in major motion pictures. Here are 14 movies filmed in Maryland, at least partially: how many of these have you seen?

1. The Blair Witch Project (1999)

Global Panorama / FlickrThe Blair Witch Project was a 1999 horror film shot in the found footage style. It's been such an inspiration to so many movies since that it's hard to remember how original it was at the time! The Blair Witch Project was filmed in Maryland and takes place in the historic village of Burkittsville. Other locations that you can spot in the film are Rockville, Wheaton, and Gaithersburg, among others. This is undoubtedly one of the most famous movies set in Maryland.

The musical romantic comedy has a star-studded cast that includes a young Johnny Depp, Iggy Pop, and Ricki Lake. Part of the movie takes place at the Enchanted Forest Park in Ellicott City. The amusement park has since closed, but you can see plenty of locations that still exist, like Hampden, Reisterstown, Jessup, and Sykesville.

Most of the movie production for Runaway Bride took place in Berlin. You can even see this tea shop along Main Street in the movie.

The scene was filmed in Perry Hall.

Parts of the film take place while Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was attending college. A few of the university scenes were shot at Baltimore's Johns Hopkins University campus.

Parts of National Treasure: Book of Secrets was shot at University of Maryland College Park.

Parts of Live Free or Die Hard were filmed in Baltimore. You might be able to recognize East Lexington Street and North Calvert Street. Parts of Die Hard with a Vengeance were filmed in Jessup.

This building at the Baltimore waterfront was used in several shots. You might also be able to recognize a few places around Annapolis.

The stadium was disguised to look like Cleveland Stadium, which was to be demolished just a few years after the film was released. In the film, the Orioles scoreboard reads "Welcome to Cleveland Stadium."
