Lightfoot takes his talents to the Washington Capitals, Foundations Hockey
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Summers for rising Men's Hockey senior Kyle Lightfoot may be considered his off-season, but Lightfoot has dedicated his time to two hockey internships.
Lightfoot learned about an opportunity with the Washington Capitals' Youth Hockey Development program and found himself unable to pass it up. He added his work with the Caps to an ongoing stint with Foundations Hockey, operated out of Stevenson's home rink at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
"I've always wanted to work with an NHL team," said the LaSalle, Quebec native. "My academic focus is Sport Management, so being able to work for a professional sports team is a great stepping stone for the future."
With the Caps, Lightfoot was able to work on-ice sessions as well as ball hockey, Try Hockey for Free, and Learn to Skate for roller hockey.
"A big takeaway for me has been realizing that not everyone has the opportunity to play hockey," said Lightfoot, "So giving the chance to some of these kids has been super rewarding."
When he was not in D.C., Lightfoot was a Foundations coach for three summer camps alongside Stevenson alumni and served on the staff of a 6-and-under team.
"I've been with Foundations for almost two years now, and being able to give back to the community at the rink we play at is very rewarding," said the Mustang forward. "Seeing the progress of the kids every week was a huge success for us."
Heading into his senior season, Lightfoot plans to continue with his hockey involvement long after leaving Stevenson.
"I definitely want to play pro after I graduate, but after the fact I want to stay in the hockey world in some sort of coaching or scouting."
