Baltimore County Fire Department Introduces Safety 6:
A New Resource to Enhance First Responder Safety

Baltimore County Fire Department is pleased to introduce a new unit within the Bureau of Safety: the On-Duty Field Safety Officer. This position, represented by a dedicated vehicle named Safety 6, went into service on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 0700 hours. This new safety position will be stationed at Pikesville Fire Station #2 and will operate 24 hours a day, ensuring continuous support for emergency responses and training activities.

The primary responsibility of the On-Duty Field Safety Officer will be to enhance the safety and well-being of fire department personnel. Safety 6 will serve as a mobile resource, effectively monitoring operational activities, providing timely support, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.

Critical Responsibilities:

  • Conduct safety assessments at incident scenes.
  • Provide immediate support and resources on the fire ground.
  • Assist in the identification and mitigation of potential hazards.
  • Assist with departmental accidents and injuries.
  • Offer guidance and training on safety best practices.
  • Foster a culture of safety awareness among all personnel.

The launch of Safety 6 reflects the fire department's commitment to the health, safety, and effectiveness of its personnel. By integrating a dedicated Field Safety Officer into our operations, we aim to foster a safer working environment and provide the highest level of emergency services to Baltimore County residents.

Push-In Ceremony

The Baltimore County Fire Department will hold a traditional "push-in ceremony " to officially mark the beginning of this new and essential service. This event symbolizes Safety 6's dedication to safeguarding our first responders and the community we serve.
