Inset: Kevin Ahn (Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office).

A Pennsylvania man allegedly murdered his mother and then drove to his sister’s house with her body inside of the car — covering it with boxes, McDonald’s wrappers and “household goods” — in what his lawyer has likened to respectfully “dressing up a skeleton,” according to police and local reports.

Kevin Ahn, 31, is charged with first-degree murder and assault, as well as abuse of a corpse, in connection to the death of his mom, Hyun Ahn, 61, in Maryland earlier this year, according to local NBC affiliate WGAL. The woman’s death was ruled a homicide by strangulation and a traumatic brain injury.

Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger told The Baltimore Sun on Saturday that Ahn is facing murder and assault charges in Baltimore County, where Hyun Ahn lived in Owings Mills FINISH READING HERE

SUSPICIOUS DEATH FOLLOW-UP: MAN CHARGED WITH ABANDONING MOTHER'S CORPSE OUTSIDE PENN TOWNSHIP HOME DETAILS MAP A man has been charged with abusing his mother’s corpse and leaving it in a car outside a Penn Township home. Kevin Hyun Ahn, who has no fixed residence but whose last address was in Schuylkill Haven, was charged with a single count of abuse of corpse.

Ahn, 31, is accused of abusing the corpse of his mother, 61-year-old Hyun Ahn, of Owings Mills, Md. Northern Lancaster Regional Police were dispatched to a suspicious incident at a residence in the 100 block of Fruitville Pike in Penn Township shortly before 3 p.m. on March 24.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the complainant who reported that her estranged brother, Ahn, was outside the residence and “acting weird,” the complainant told police. The complainant explained to police that Ahn, who is transient and not generally welcome at the home, was operating their mother’s car, a white, 2022 Toyota Rav 4. Ahn left the scene in the vehicle after he and the complainant argued about his presence at the residence, she said.

Ahn returned to the residence shortly after 3:30 p.m. The complainant and her husband confronted Ahn outside the residence at that time. As the couple approached Ahn, they observed what appeared to be an unresponsive person positioned across the rear seat and floor of the vehicle, partially covered in household goods. Ahn fled the scene on foot after the couple questioned him about the person in the car and they contacted NLCRPD.

An officer, along with EMS from Warwick EMS, entered the vehicle and located the deceased body of a female. EMS confirmed that the female was dead. NLCRPD’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), in conjunction with the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office searched the vehicle after obtaining a warrant and retrieved the woman’s body.

The deceased is believed to be Hyun Ahn. Police found Ahn running near East Ferdinand and South Main streets in Manheim Borough a short time later and detained him. An investigation into the death of Hyun Ahn is ongoing and pending autopsy results. Additional charges may be filed.

NLCRPD CID is actively working with the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office and law enforcement in Maryland to investigate the event fully. Anyone with information is asked to call NLCRPD at (717) 733-0965 or Lancaster County Crime Stoppers at (800) 322-1913. You may also submit a tip through CrimeWatch via the “Submit a Tip” feature. Tipsters may remain anonymous and do not have to give their names.

Ahn is currently being held in Lancaster County Prison without bail. A preliminary hearing has not been scheduled. NLCRPD Detective Officer Theresa Stauffer filed the charges. First Deputy Assistant District Attorney Cody Wade will prosecute the case. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
