TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's soccer team opened the 2025 season with a 5-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's Sunday night at Tiger Field in a game delayed more than 100 minutes due to lightning in the area as soon as the first half ended. The Mount drops to 0-2.

Redshirt sophomore Payton Todd, who appeared in one game during her first two years at Towson, scored twice to lead the way, while freshman Riley Matthews added a goal and two assists. Redshirt sophomore Teagan Gardner in her first career start pitched a shutout – making two saves.

"We got better as the game went on," said Towson head coach Katherine Vettori. "We were able to get different combinations and good rotations. What a great night for Payton Todd and a debut for Riley Matthews. We have lots to work on, but I am excited about the result."
