Horizon Day Camp Awarded $5,000 from RCM&D through Liberty Mutual Insurance® and Safeco Insurance® 2025 Make More Happen™ Awards
Supporters Can Help Double the Donation to $10,000 by Voting for their Agent Giving Story

Baltimore, Maryland (June 5, 2025) Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance have awarded RCM&D a 2025 Make More Happen Award for its partnership with Horizon Day Camp, a nonprofit dedicated to restoring the joy of childhood for children with cancer and their families. The award includes an initial donation of $5,000 for Horizon Day Camp, which can be doubled to $10,000 by encouraging community supporters to vote online.

The RCM&D and Horizon Day Camp story is featured on the official Make More Happen microsite at https://www.agentgiving.com/rcmd, where supporters can vote to help the team reach their donation goal. If the story receives at least 500 votes and comments, the $5,000 donation will be increased to $10,000.

Horizon Day Camp is dedicated to restoring the joy of childhood for children with cancer and their families. Serving children throughout the state of Maryland, Horizon Day Camp offers an inclusive, full-summer day camp, along with year-round programs, and in-hospital activities – all provided free of charge – for children with cancer and their siblings, giving families a much-needed reprieve and creating moments of joy in a world often filled with “no.” With the support of pediatric oncologists and nurses, the camp welcomes children of all mobility levels, helping more than 160 kids thrive emotionally and socially in a safe and supportive environment.

The $10,000 award will directly support transportation, which is part of the free, full-summer day camp experience, program supplies, special events, and staffing – making it possible for every child to enjoy a magical, memory-filled summer. By voting for RCM&D, community members can help create unforgettable experiences for children facing cancer.

RCM&D matches Horizon’s commitment through generous year-round involvement. The local independent insurance advisory firm hosted a year-long fundraising campaign in 2023 leading up to the 28th
annual Regatta in September, of which Horizon Day Camp was a beneficiary. With support from employees and carrier partners, RCM&D promoted Horizon Day Camp’s mission through video and social media, and donated wish-list items like games and craft supplies. They’ve also sponsored camp entertainment, including visits from princesses and magicians.

“Our firm believes in providing people with peace of mind, through our services and support for the community,” said Katie Caple, Corporate Outreach and Learning & Development Specialist at RCM&D. “Horizon Day Camp creates a world where children can be themselves, free from the burdens of illness. We are proud to support this incredible organization that allows kids to be kids in a safe and nurturing environment designed for them.”

RCM&D’s commitment runs deep. Employees serve on Horizon Day Camp’s board, volunteer at camp each summer, and participate in annual fundraising walks alongside their families. The firm also hosts an annual toy drive and holiday celebration for families in treatment, featuring music, crafts, and visits from Santa and the Oriole Bird. During a recent hospital visit, an older patient recovering from a complicated procedure lit up when greeted by the Oriole Bird – just as excited as the younger children were to see Santa.

“Recognizing independent agents’ dedication to their communities and nonprofit partners is what the Make More Happen Awards are all about,” said Lori Monsky, Senior Territory Manager, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance. “RCM&D is an outstanding example of how agencies can make a real difference, and we hope sharing their story inspires others to give back as well.”

Throughout 2025, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select up to 36 independent agencies nationwide for a Make More Happen Award, donating up to $360,000 to nonprofits they support. Agencies become eligible for the award by submitting applications showcasing their commitment to a specific cause.
