LOCAL PET VOLUNTEER

The Maryland SPCA is proud to announce that Mary Chico has won our William Woodward Award. Her volunteerism has improved the lives of hundreds of pets and helped them find forever homes.

Mary’s name is synonymous with helping dogs find loving homes. She lavishes attention on our most stressed-out pups, helping them decompress with adventures in the community. Last year, Guacamole met his future adopters during a “dog’s day out” with Mary!

The MD SPCA’s behavior department describes Mary as their “go-to-volunteer for behavior tasks.” She recently helped Butch overcome his fear of cars, leading him to take the best ride of his life—straight to a loving home.

With a leash in one hand, and her trusty camera in the other, Mary takes life-changing pictures of shelter dogs for the MD SPCA among other animal welfare organizations.

We are so lucky to have Mary…” added Katie Haines, volunteer coordinator at the MD SPCA. “On the rough days where work just feels like work, I see Mary and she gets me excited all over again. She inspires, for sure.”
