Hannah Swird, a senior at Pikesville High School,has been awarded the Jefferson Scholars Foundation‘s Walentas Scholarship, a highly competitive honor that recognizes exceptional talent and dedication to college and community.

The 12 recipients of the 2024 Walentas Scholarship have a distinguished history of accomplishments, and Swird’s excellence and dedication to college and community have made her an ideal candidate for this prestigious honor.

Swird has achieved a number of important accomplishments during her time at Pikesville High School. She is a co-founder of a mock trial team, a member of the Jewish Student Union, Rho Kappa, the National Honors Society, Student Government, and Model United Nations. 

She has also served as a program director for Maryland High School Democrats, an international service event coordinator for BBYO (a leadership and identity enrichment program for Jewish teens), Central Committee associate member of the Baltimore County Democratic Party, and Youth Transit Council member of the Maryland Department of Transportation. She has received numerous awards from BBYO, including an Advanced Placement Capstone Diploma and Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction recognition.

In addition to her work in leadership and service, Swird is also passionate about education and plans to earn a degree in education, focusing on youth and social innovation. She is confident that her skills and dedication will help her to achieve her goals and make a positive impact on the world around her.
