What People Really Think About Pumpkin Spice

You won't believe how many people have it on a regular basis!

  • McCormick released the results of their consumer survey for 2025 and revealed how popular pumpkin spice is.
  • More than 70% of respondents say they use pumpkin pie spice at least once a week during the peak season.
  • 90% of pumpkin spice sales occur between August and December.

Whether you like it or not, it's officially pumpkin spice season! The weather might still it's summer, but fans of the increasingly popular flavor are all about fall. And now a new survey reveals that yes, pumpkin spice is as popular as you think it is... maybe even more!

McCormick, the company behind the most popular blend of pumpkin pie spice on the market, released the results of their new survey about seasonal flavors. And pumpkin spice indeed came in as the "top seasonal flavor consumers look forward to the most throughout the year," ranking over cinnamon, peppermint, eggnog, and more.

Just how popular are we talking? According to the McCormick Proprietary Consumer Survey for 2025, a whopping 72% of respondents use pumpkin pie spice at least once a week. Breaking that down further, 25% of respondents use it daily, 32% of respondents use it multiple times per week, and 15% use it weekly.

Those are quite some spicy numbers! Here's another one: 90% of pumpkin pie spice sales occur between August and December, so it truly is a flavor that evokes seasonality. Whether you sip on a pumpkin spice latte or make all sorts of pumpkin desserts, there's nothing quite like the warm spice blend to make you all cozy.

Here's what might surprise you, though! Sixty-six percent of survey respondents use pumpkin spice when making dinner. Some of the savory dishes mentioned include pizza, pasta, salad, and even meatloaf. Though if that sounds odd, remember just how tasty savory pumpkin recipes can be. It's just another way to get your fix!

By the way, in case you were wondering, the national pumpkin spice obsession isn't new. McCormick actually released their pumpkin pie spice all the way back to 1934. So if you're one of the millions of Americans that partake in the seasonal sensation that is pumpkin spice, know there were generations of other fans before you paving the way.
